Mastering Metering in Challenging Light
The polar regions present some of the most difficult metering conditions a photographer will ever face. Snow, ice, and dark wildlife subjects often fool a camera’s built-in meter. In this lecture, we break down how to take control: when to trust your camera, when to override it, and how to use spot, center-weighted, or evaluative metering to get exposures right in every situation. By the time we reach land, you’ll have the confidence to adapt quickly and never miss a shot because of tricky light.
Image Reviews and Landing Preparation
Photography doesn’t end when you press the shutter. Aboard the ship, we gather to review images together. These sessions are collaborative and constructive—we highlight what’s working, identify areas to improve, and talk through editing choices. More importantly, these reviews help us prepare for upcoming landings. Knowing what worked yesterday informs what you’ll try tomorrow. You’ll head ashore each day with a plan, a vision, and the confidence to create the best images of your life.
Walking in Shackleton’s Footsteps
South Georgia carries the echoes of one of the greatest survival stories ever told—the voyage of Sir Ernest Shackleton. In this lecture, we’ll revisit the harrowing journey of the Endurance crew, Shackleton’s desperate crossing of the Southern Ocean, and the legendary trek across South Georgia’s mountains to rescue his men. Knowing this history adds a profound weight to standing on those very shores with your camera in hand.
