Our story
Photography is the study of light, and our name reflects that. Akari is the Japanese word for "light," "illumination," or "brightness," a fitting name for the work we do.
Akari Photo Tours was founded in 2023 by Kevin Lisota and Kevin Pepper, two professional photographers with many years of instructing and leading photography workshops.
Their friendship began on a trip to Antarctica, watching penguins leap into the water at Neko Harbour. They realized they shared a love of photography and travel, plus they had a mutual appreciation for Canadian humor. Like the penguins, they took a leap and decided to start a company together.
