Paris Photo Workshop Trip Report: A Week of Motion, Moonlight, and a Dash of Haute Couture

By  |

Paris has never once let me down. Twenty years ago, I wandered these streets as a businessman, stealing moments between meetings, and even then the city had a way of stopping me in my tracks. Now, guiding groups of photographers through those same avenues on our Paris photo workshops, bridges, and courtyards, it still hits me with the same magic every time. Paris has impressed me for two decades, and I know it always will—camera or no camera.

If there’s one thing Paris teaches you during a Paris photo workshop, it’s that the city never stops moving—and during our workshop, neither did we. With a small, nimble group that could pivot faster than a street performer avoiding a parking ticket, we chased motion, mastered night photography, and even dipped our toes into the world of high-end fashion shoots.

This wasn’t your typical “stand in one spot and wait for magic” kind of week. No, we created it. Every day, every location, every swirl of light and passing silhouette became part of the story we set out to tell. And of course, Paris fed us well—very well. We made a habit of slipping into streetside cafés where the coffee was strong, the bread was warm enough to make you question your life choices back home, and every plate that hit the table seemed engineered for joy. Between those casual café stops and a few of my favorite Parisian restaurants, we ate like people who knew they were in the culinary capital of the world. Perfectly crisp duck, rich sauces that should probably be illegal, and desserts that made us forget we had early alarms the next morning—Paris served up comfort, indulgence, and a little taste of why the French take their food as seriously as their art.

The Paris Photo Workshop Theme: Motion, Night, Fashion—Paris in Three Acts

Arts et Metiers Metro Station, Paris

Act I: People in Motion

We played a game of “find the poetry in the chaos during our 2025 Paris photo workshop.”

At La Louvre, we slowed the shutter and let the crowds paint the courtyard for us—ghostly brushstrokes of tourists drifting around those timeless pyramids. One brave soul even stood still long enough to anchor the frame, proving that miracles do happen in Paris.

Montmartre turned into our training ground for timing, anticipation, and probably developing calves of steel. From the steps in Montmartre by Sacre Coeur to the charming lanes around Place du Tertre, we worked scenes where people flowed like river water… river water wearing scarves, carrying baguettes, and occasionally dodging our tripods.

And yes, the Wall of Love and Carrousel de Saint-Pierre gave us the perfect blend of color, movement, and classic Parisian whimsy—the kind of moments that make you grateful you remembered to bring extra battery power.

Act II: Paris After Dark

Night photography in Paris is a little like sorcery.

You put your tripod down, wait for the lights, and suddenly you’re casting spells.

Under the golden glow of Pont Alexandre III, we photographed those ornate lamps like they were stage actors waiting for their cue. The reflections on the Seine weren’t bad either… Paris really knows how to show off.

La Louvre at night? Always a heart-stealer. The courtyard becomes this elegant, glowing puzzle of glass and stone, and we enjoyed every quiet minute working the angles after the crowds vanished.

By the time we stood beneath the steel ribs of Pont de Bir-Hakeim with the Eiffel Tower shimmering behind us, the city felt like it was ours alone. Long exposures, leading lines, and that perfect metallic symmetry—chef’s kiss.

Act III: High Fashion Meets Real-World Photography

Paris wouldn’t let us leave without flexing a little glamour.

We photographed a sunrise ballet session at Trocadéro, where our dancer moved with more grace than any of us had before our first coffee. It was one of those shoots that just felt like Paris—refined, elegant, and a little surreal.

Later in the week, we teamed up with Parisian fashion models and clothing designers, turning the city’s architecture into a runway.
Palais Garnier? A backdrop worthy of any couture editorial.
The mall? Surprisingly photogenic with the right styling and a brave model.
The Eiffel Tower? Well… let’s say she’s a reliable co-star.

Those sessions pushed everyone creatively—posing, directing, managing light on the fly, and embracing that confident “fashion-shoot swagger.” You know… the one where you pretend not to care about the crowd forming behind you.

The Iconic Stops That Made It All Sing

We roamed through the stories that built this city:

  • Les Colonnes de Buren, where we played with symmetry and scale like kids in a marble courtyard.
  • Notre Dame, still powerful and humbling even behind scaffolding.
  • Sainte-Chapelle, where the light pours in like stained-glass confetti.
  • Musée d’Orsay, where the giant clock gave us silhouettes that could make any Instagram account jealous.
  • Arc de Triomphe, where timing, traffic, and a bit of prayer combine for unforgettable images.
  • And then there’s Pont de Bir-Hakeim at night, a place that feels like it was engineered specifically for photographers. Under those steel ribs with the Eiffel Tower glowing behind it, every long exposure felt like capturing the heartbeat of Paris itself.

And in between all that creative chaos? A celebratory dinner at Café Marly (OK… we visited that location a few times for the hot chocolate and chocolate eclairs), and a gentle golden-hour wander through the city, where we learned that photographers can relax—it just takes excellent food and an iconic view.

In the End, It Wasn’t About the Checkmarks…

It was about the rhythm of the city, the shared discoveries, the cold fingers from holding tripods too long, the laughter echoing under bridges, and the thrill of capturing fleeting moments you can’t replicate.

Motion. Night. Fashion.
Three simple themes, one unforgettable week.

Thanks to everyone who joined us—your energy made Paris feel brand new again.
And if you missed this one? Well… Paris isn’t going anywhere.
But you might want to grab a spot before these workshops sell out again.

Because the City of Light shines a whole lot brighter when you see it through your lens.
