Unlocking Hidden Paris: It’s What We Do On Our Paris Workshop
By Kevin Pepper |
There’s Paris for tourists — with crowds, guidebooks, and the same old angles. Then there’s the Paris we’ll explore on our redesigned Paris Photography workshop: doors most people never see, light most people never chase, and scenes most photographers only dream of.
This isn’t a casual photo holiday. It’s a creative immersion. Over eight days, we don’t just visit Paris — we inhabit it, craft story-rich photographs, and leave with images that feel cinematic and timeless.

Why Our Experience in Paris Matters
Before we dive into what you’ll learn, it’s worth understanding why we can offer a workshop like this.
Kevin Pepper has been travelling to Paris for more than 20 years — long before he carried a camera bag instead of a briefcase. For the past decade he’s led photography workshops across the city, exploring its alleys, rooftops, riverbanks, quiet courtyards, and historic corners at every hour of the day and night.
That kind of time on the ground changes how you see a place. It builds intuition. It teaches you where the light falls in each month, how the Seine behaves after rain, which passage opens into a forgotten courtyard, and which stairwell turns into a natural-light studio when the clouds roll in.
It also leads to relationships — with locals, artists, restaurants, custodians, guides, guards, and people who quietly open the doors that don’t appear on tourist maps or Instagram feeds.
These hidden gems aren’t secrets for the sake of secrecy. They’re simply places you’d never stumble upon unless someone who has walked the city for decades brings you there. And on our workshop, we will share all of it — the tucked-away corners, the lesser-known vantage points, and the magical spots that have become our favorites over the years.
Now, let’s get into the craft — the skills you’ll take home from this experience.

Mastering Light Across the Day
From the soft blush of dawn in Montmartre to the deep blues of night at the Palais Garnier, light tells the story.
- We begin with sunrise shoots when the streets are quiet, the shadows long, the city still waking. Here you’ll learn to see the subtlety of light on stone, how to expose for delicate hues, how to catch the moment before everything gets busy.
- We push into blue-hour and night work, especially thanks to our after-hours access to Palais Garnier and other Paris gems. You’ll learn how to handle ambient light mixed with architecture and controlled lighting (we’ll bring pro gear).
- On top of that: portrait and fashion lighting under different conditions — indoor, outdoor, ambient + artificial. You’ll see how we set up lighting crews to enhance the scene without overpowering the natural feel.
What you’ll walk away with: confidence in all light conditions — not just the golden hour, but the less predictable “wonder hours” that separate the good image from the great.

Storytelling with People (Models, Dancers & Your Subjects)
Most workshops have you point and shoot. This one will have you shape the shot — because we’re not just photographing beautiful places, we’re going to be creating compelling images with movement, expression, and setting.
- We’ve brought in two professional fashion models, styled in both evening wear and street fashion.
- You’ll also photograph two elite ballet dancers from a Parisian company. Movement, grace, form — everything about their presence elevates the scene.
- You’ll learn how to freeze motion, how to blur motion, how to time a leap or a spin, and how to place your subject so the city becomes part of the narrative like the masters before us. Think, Elliott Erwitt, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Robert Doisneau.
What you’ll walk away with: the ability to direct people, create mood, and photograph movement with intent.

Architecture, Space & Designing the Frame
Paris rewards the photographer who pays attention to structure and space.
- We’ll guide you through historic must-shoot locations and quiet old-world corners most visitors miss because they are too busy waiting to get their turn at an Instagrammer’s photos they saw online.
- You’ll learn to photograph sweeping staircases, arches, courtyards, ironwork, and reflections in a way that gives your images depth and story.
- We mix private access, after-hours sessions, and sunrise solitude so you can compose without distraction.
What you’ll walk away with: the architectural eye that turns a location into a character in your photograph.

Street, Movement & the Unexpected Moments
Paris moves at its own rhythm. We teach you how to read it.
- You’ll learn to anticipate human moments — the passing silhouette, the cyclist, the café interaction, the perfect stride across a shaft of morning light.
- We push you to work fast, react intuitively, and embed yourself in the life of the street without disrupting it.
What you’ll walk away with: sharper timing, stronger instincts, and confidence to shoot both posed and candid work.

Personalized Feedback & Mentorship
Two instructors — each offering different strengths, working together to elevate your photography.
- Daily hands-on instruction
- Image reviews and critique
- Lighting demos where you run the lights
- One-on-one coaching
- Pre-trip discussions to tailor your goals
What you’ll walk away with: not just better photos, but a deeper understanding of your own creative voice.
