Aerial photography of spectacular Icelandic landscapes via drone
Iceland is a fantastic place to create stunning aerial images with a drone. Having a “tripod in the sky” allows you to reach otherwise inaccessible scenes or photograph unique aerial perspectives not possible on the ground.
We’ll travel to remote locations in the Icelandic Highlands and the South Coast of Iceland. Photographing the dynamic Highland landscapes, colorful geothermal areas, hot springs, lava fields, waterfalls, and multiple locations with stunning braided rivers where the glacial rivers flow over the sand. The landscapes are unique to Iceland and quite simply a photographer’s dream.
No matter your skill level with your drone, our instructors will help you get started, gain confidence in your flying skills, teach you how to compose shots from the air, and provide tips and tricks to get the most out of your drone photography.
We fly drones only in locations where they are allowed and adhere to all Icelandic laws and regulations.

Itinerary

This itinerary is subject to change based on weather and local conditions. If a particular location is inaccessible or unsafe, we will choose an alternate area.

Day 1: Arrive in Reykjavik
Arrive at Keflavik Airport (KEF) before 3:00 PM on this day. Air travel delays are possible, so please consider arriving early, possibly the day prior. We don't want you to miss out on trip activities.
We’ll meet in the lobby at our hotel in Reykjavik and have a group meeting and dinner. We‘ll review the itinerary, prepare for our adventure in Iceland, and get to know each other.
Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 2: Fjallabak waterfalls and canyons
Today, we’ll visit spectacular waterfalls and canyons, including Hjalparfoss, Háifoss, and Gjáin canyon.

Day 3: Fishing lakes
We’ll fly our drones over a series of magnificent lakes, the craters at Veidivotn, and the Tungnaá braided rivers.

Day 4: Landmannalaugar
Today, our focus turns to Landmannalaugar, known for colorful rhyolite mountains, geothermal activity, and lava fields. We’ll photograph the crater lakes of Ljótipollur and Hnausapollur.
On our way to our next hotel, we’ll drive the scenic Dómadalsleið road through the Fjallabak Reserve and capture images of the Hekla volcano.

Day 5: Fjallabak nyrðra
Today we’ll fly over the Eldgjá and Ófærufoss waterfalls, along with the Skaftá river.

Day 6–7: South Coast
We’ll explore the south highlands, including the Axlafoss and Hólmsárlón waterfalls, and the beautiful Raudibotn crater.
We’ll also photograph the Mælifell volcano, the Hólmsá river, the Markarfljot canyon, and Álftavatn lake area.

Day 8: Fjallabak sydra fjallabak
We’ll drive the Fjallabak southern route, photographing the volcanic and otherworldly scenery on our way back to Reykjavik.
Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 9: Departure from Iceland
Departure from Keflavik Airport (KEF). You can book your return flight for anytime this day.
Accommodations
We will travel in comfortable, custom Sprinter vans with WiFi and USB chargers for all seats, allowing you to charge your drone batteries throughout the day. We will stay at various comfortable country hotels near our preferred photo locations along our journey. All hotels include breakfast and have private bathrooms.
