An unforgettable adventure through Scotland’s epic landscapes, historic castles, and ever-changing light.
This workshop will introduce you to some of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes — from the scenic mountains, glens, and lochs of Glencoe to the rugged ranges and dramatic coastline of Skye. We’ll take you to the right locations at the right times, making the most of the light and conditions each day.
Our focus is on hands-on photography, maximizing time on location and shooting as conditions permit, while providing in-the-field guidance, demonstrations, ongoing image reviews, and practical tips for post-processing
While we will focus on capturing Scotland’s dramatic scenery throughout the week, the workshop is as much about the experience as it is about the photography. We maintain a relaxed, supportive atmosphere, treating participants like family, with plenty of laughter, shared stories, and camaraderie throughout the trip.

- Scotland’s most impressive landscapes: We’ll take you to iconic landscape locations, like the Quiraing and Old Man of Storr, as well as lesser-known locations that offer unique opportunities to capture the beauty of Scotland.

- Two pro photographers with you, always: We will always be on hand to provide whatever level of instruction you need to ensure you have the technical and compositional skills to create compelling images.
- Weather that shapes the light: Scotland’s ever-changing weather is a big part of what makes the photography here so good. We’ll work with shifting clouds, rain, and breaks in the light to add mood, depth, and drama to our images.
- Skills that last: Our hands-on instruction in the field will give you techniques and ways of seeing that continue to shape your photography long after the workshop ends.

- Working with Moody, Ever-Changing Scottish Light – Discover how to adapt to fast-moving weather, shifting light, and atmospheric conditions like mist and rain to create images with depth, mood, and a true sense of place.
- Refining Your Camera Technique in the Field – Strengthen your understanding of essential settings so you can respond quickly to fleeting moments and focus more on creative decisions rather than technical ones.
- Creative Techniques for Capturing Impactful Images – Explore when and how to use tools like long exposures, focus stacking, and panoramas to elevate your images and expand your creative possibilities.
- Editing and Image Reviews to Refine Your Vision – Take part in informal editing sessions and image critiques during downtime to refine your workflow and better understand how to bring your vision to life in post-processing.

Activity Level
Many locations are accessed from the roadside or via a short, easy walk, but a few locations require a longer hike with some elevation gain on trails or navigating along a rocky shoreline. You should be comfortable walking up to 1-2 miles (45-60 minutes) at a time to reach these locations. If you have any questions about your ability to participate in this workshop, please contact us.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Inverness
Arrive at Inverness Airport (INV) before 2:00 PM on this day. Air travel delays are possible, so please consider arriving early, possibly the day prior. We don't want you to miss out on trip activities.
Upon arriving in Inverness, you’ll have time to get settled into our airport hotel, located within walking distance of the terminal. In the evening, we will gather for a group dinner to get to know each other and discuss the upcoming trip.

Day 2: Inverness to Glencoe
After breakfast, we’ll gather in the lobby, packed and ready to make our way to Glencoe (about a 3-hour drive), stopping for lunch on the way (with a possible photoshoot at our lunch spot). Upon arrival, we’ll check into our hotel, then head out for the afternoon to start exploring the scenic Highlands of Scotland.

Day 3: Glencoe
If conditions are favorable, we’ll be out early for sunrise, then back to the hotel for a hearty Scottish breakfast before heading out for the day. Alternatively, we may start with breakfast, followed by a full day photographing the dramatic mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and lochs of Glencoe. We’ll shoot grand landscapes and smaller details, taking time to slow down, explore, and refine compositions, pivoting as conditions change (and they will – it’s Scotland, after all). Expect a full day in the field with plenty of opportunities to learn, experiment, and create powerful images.

Day 4: Glencoe to Skye
We’ll begin with a morning photoshoot in Glencoe, then head back for breakfast, pack up, and check out. From there, we’ll start our journey to the Isle of Skye (about a 4.5-hour drive), stopping for lunch along the way. Before we reach the island, we’ll stop to photograph the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, exploring compositional choices based on the weather and light. Once on Skye, we’ll drive to our hotel, check in, and relax before dinner. If time permits, we might get out for another photoshoot at a nearby location before dinner.

Day 5–7: Skye
Three full days on Skye will give us the opportunity to explore many iconic photo spots, including the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr, as well as some lesser-known ones. Our extended stay will give us the luxury of spontaneity in our itinerary, ensuring we’re at the best locations for the light and weather each day. We will also have plenty of time for hands-on instruction in the field to help you develop your technical and compositional skills.

Day 8: Skye to Inverness
After a morning photoshoot and breakfast, we’ll check out and begin the journey back to Inverness (about a 3-hour drive), stopping to photograph more of the Highlands along the way. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at our hotel with time to rest before we gather for one last dinner (on us), sharing a few laughs and the best moments from our time together in Scotland.

Departure from Inverness Airport (INV). You can book your return flight for anytime this day.
