Witness a chaotic feeding frenzy of Bald Eagles and spectacular marine wildlife in Canada’s Pacific Northwest
Join us to photograph a one-of-a-kind Bald Eagle adrenaline-filled feeding frenzy in British Columbia’s Discovery Islands. We’ll be in the middle of the chaos of countless eagles as they dive down and snatch fish from the water.
During late spring/early summer, when the tide currents are strongest, turbulent rapids stun small hake fish and bring them to the surface, providing easy meals for the hundreds of eagles who are ready to pounce on this buffet. We’ll stay at a luxurious waterfront lodge, located just minutes from the eagle show, maximizing our access and ability to photograph this unique phenomenon.
When the tides are calm, we’ll seek out other animals in this wildlife-rich environment, such as humpback whales, orcas, bears, porpoises, sea lions, otters, and seabirds.

- Handle cluttered and chaotic backgrounds – Create cleaner compositions in a busy environment by using angle, position, focal length, and timing to separate your subject from distracting water, shoreline, and other birds.
- Master autofocus and focus modes for action – Use your camera’s focus settings with more confidence so you can stay locked on erratic movement and improve your keeper rate in the middle of the action.
- Control exposure in bright, reflective conditions – Manage exposure when working over water and in changing coastal light to prevent overexposure and retain detail.
- Improve your wildlife images in post-processing – Select your strongest frames, refine sharpness, recover detail, and process your eagle images to create more impactful images.

Itinerary

This tour offers opportunities to photograph wildlife. We'll maximize our chances of encountering wildlife, but we want to remind you that we don't control wildlife and cannot guarantee encounters with particular species. Itineraries for wildlife trips are subject to change based on wildlife activity.

Day 1: Arrive at lodge/Afternoon photography
Arrive at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) before 5:00 AM on this day. Air travel delays are possible, so please consider arriving early, possibly the day prior. We don't want you to miss out on trip activities. Airport transfer is included on arrival.
We begin our journey this morning, flying from Vancouver to Campbell River, BC. This flight is not included in your tour cost. This flight departs from the South Terminal, not the Main Terminal, at YVR.
From Campbell River, we’ll head to the dock for a water taxi ride to the lodge. The boat ride takes about 1.5 hours.
Once you arrive at the lodge, we’ll get situated in our rooms and have lunch before we head out on the skiff for our afternoon photography session with the eagles.

Day 2–4: Eagle and wildlife photography
Our days at the lodge follow a similar itinerary, but the exact timing of when we visit the eagles varies each day with the tides. We’ll wake early for breakfast, and then head out to photograph eagles and other wildlife. When the tides aren’t active, we’ll be seeking other wildlife, such as whales, dolphins, sea lions, seabirds, bears, otters, and more.
We’ll return to the lodge for lunch and a rest, then head out for our afternoon photo session. We’ll return around dark for dinner and rest.

Day 5: Morning photography/Departure
We’ll have breakfast at the lodge, followed by a final morning photography session.
We’ll get our things together and head to the water taxi for our ride back to Campbell River. Once in Campbell River, we’ll transfer to the airport for our flight back to Vancouver. This flight isn’t included in the tour price. We arrive at the South Terminal of YVR, where you can take the shuttle to the Main Terminal for your flight home, or find transportation to a hotel.
Departure from Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Book your departing flight no earlier than 8:00 PM on this day. Airport transfer is included on departure.
Accommodations
We’ll stay at a luxurious oceanfront lodge with ocean views from every room. The lodge serves delicious gourmet meals and has comfortable areas to relax and unwind, including an oceanfront hot tub and wildlife passing by outside.
